Summary:
The students walked through the narrow streets of Souq Waqif.
While they were walking through the market, they saw many strange things like fresh dates and different kinds of spices and nuts. They stopped at a shop-window looking at some beautiful silver items. The smell of strange perfumes coming from some shops made them enjoy the walk more and more.
Then they came to a shop that sold traditional Qatari clothes and started talking to the shop owner about different things connected to his trade and past in the Souq.
Inside the shop, they met a tourist from New Zealand and asked her some questions. She was helpful and cooperated with them. We felt that all the students were impressed and excited about her way of speech.
Later and while they were walking near a restaurant, they stopped a couple of tourists from England. They introduced themselves and asked them some questions about traditional souqs and their importance. They also discussed the differences between traditional and modern souqs.
The students passed by a traditional coffee-shop, they saw two Qatari men playing a traditional game called “Dhama”. They talked to them about the game and how it is played.
On their way back, they saw a post-office, a police station and an information office. They were very happy to know the additional services that a visitor can find there.
Finally, we felt that the visit added self-confidence to the students.
